Babywearing: why carry?
"crying babies are almost always contented when picked up"
We believe, and research has shown, that holding our babies until they’re ready to be let go is the most natural way to parent healthy children. Babywearing isn’t just about the freedom it gives you to go about your day, it’s also about the stimulation, security and bond babies benefit from by being held close to their parents. Carrying our young provides them with this essential stimulation their body and mind need for optimum development.
Babies left in prams and pushchairs are perhaps missing out on this vital stimulation, and often scream and cry as their way of letting us know this is not where they want to be. Sadly, our society has been culturally desensitised into believing such distress is "normal" behavior. We think otherwise.
Even if you have never used a baby carrier you will probably have noticed one simple fact: crying babies are almost always contented when picked up!
One study has even shown that babies who are carried cry (on average) 43% less overall and 51% less during the evening hours.**
This is why we passionately believe in carrying our children. It’s logical! And the end result... we help them to grow into stronger, healthier and more emotionally balanced human beings.
