FAQ

Can I breastfeed with theBabaSling®?

Absolutely! Breastfeeding in theBabaSling® is simple, quick, discreet and so convenient. Refer to the instructions or Our 5 Positions page in product info for more information on how to discreetly breastfeed in the Easy Tiger and Coyote Cradle positions.

How can I reposition my baby in theBabaSling®?

If baby isn’t positioned correctly in theBabaSling® from the start, you will encounter problems. The key is, if it doesn’t feel right; adjust baby’s position so you are both comfortable. Alternatively, remove baby and start again. Be conscious of how you both feel when using theBabaSling®. If, during the course of moving around and during motion, you find baby is slipping down, either theBabaSling® is not tight enough or you did not place baby correctly into theBabaSling® in the first place. Always feel confident to remove baby and start again. Be conscious. If there’s a disconnection between you and baby, then correct it. Don’t wear theBabaSling® too low. If you feel the need to hold baby in theBabaSling®, then you are wearing it too low or it might be too loose. The whole principle of theBabaSling® is you should feel confident wearing/carrying baby, not holding them. theBabaSling® should do all the holding.

Does theBabaSling® put any pressure on my baby's spine?

Spinal care is vital in baby’s early months and years to ensure the correct development of their skeletal structure. Many healthcare practitioners such as osteopaths and chiropractors consider the hammock-style of theBabaSling® to be ideal for healthy spinal development in infancy. It is specifically designed to support baby’s entire weight comfortably and evenly, with no unnatural pressure on their undeveloped hips and spine. When baby is in an upright position in theBabaSling® notice that their weight is not held between the legs, but rather, is supported by the hammock of theBabaSling®, encircling the entire bottom right up to their knees. Ideally, baby’s little bottom should be positioned lower than their knees.

What does ‘ergonomically correct sitting position’ mean?

A baby’s spine and hips are not yet fully developed. Their spine is naturally rounded, not straight, and their spine and hip joints are soft and flexible. At theBabaSling® it has been our mission to design products that fully support a baby’s developing spine at all times. Therefore, it is vitally important that when baby is placed in theBabaSling® using the Koala Cuddle and the Side Saddle positions, they remain in the ergonomically correct sitting position at all times. To check baby achieves this comfortable spread squat, or M position, ensure their bottom is always positioned lower than their knees, and the fabric of the sling fully supports their thighs.

Can I use theBabaSling® if I have back problems?

Yes. However, depending on the seriousness of the problem, you may wish to consult with your doctor. The beauty of theBabaSling® is that you can easily alternate between several positions. Changing positions is essential while carrying baby, as it will redistribute the weight of your child to different areas of your body. This will avoid unnecessary stress on any one point for extended periods. We suggest that you alternate shoulders regularly, especially if you are prone to back problems. As baby grows and goes through ‘needy’ periods of constantly wanting to be held, theBabaSling® can actually help save your back from repeatedly picking baby up and putting down. Using the Side Saddle position will remove the necessity to have your hip awkwardly jutting out and allows you to stand straight (not to mention be hands free!). TheBabaSling® has a unique adjustment system, which allows you to bring your baby's weight into your centre of gravity. Again, this will minimise stress to your back. The trick is to have the upper rail pulled nice and tight. But not too loose either. A good way to tell if the upper rail is too loose is if you feel it necessary to constantly support baby with your hands – if so, you need to tighten the upper rail a little.

How do I wash theBabaSling®?

TheBabaSling® is machine washable. We recommend using a maximum temperature of 40°C with similar colours.
